Background

Elections Saskatchewan (ESK) is the province’s nonpartisan election management body and an independent office of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. ESK directs and supervises the administration of provincial electoral events, including the 2024 provincial election.

Summary

The Electoral Finance Support Staff will be responsible for assisting with the ongoing financial functions of Elections Saskatchewan including processing accounts payable for 61 constituencies, assisting with the payroll processing and answering financial inquiries from returning office staff as well as candidate’s financial agents.

These positions will be the first point of contact for Returning Office staff for inquiries on financial and payroll administration. After the election, these positions will transition to be responsible for reviewing candidate and political party election expense returns for completeness and accuracy.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Financial Compliance Team Lead:

  • Supports returning office staff in ensuring payments are made in a timely manner and are in compliance with policy and legislation.
  • Acts as the first point of contact for election staff for inquiries on financial and payroll administration.
  • Identifies and escalates situations requiring urgent attention.
  • Liaises with electoral finance staff to ensure resolutions and recommendations comply with legislation and policies.
  • Provides direction to candidate financial agents with respect to completing the candidate election expense return.
  • Reviewing all candidate and political party expense returns for completeness and accuracy.

Required Education, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • Working knowledge of accounting and payroll procedures and systems.
  • Previous experience participating in audit or review engagements is an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in the use of computer programs including in-depth knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, email, and related office administration software.
  • Ability to work effectively under deadlines while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities and workloads and to prioritize work and ensure others have the information required to complete or progress with their work.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, expressing ideas both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated experience working as a contributing team member, with strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain effective and respectful working relationships.

Compensation

This position will be required to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, in the lead up to the general election. The monthly salary range for this position is $4,376 to $5,692 (MCP02).

Appointment to this position is subject to the submission of a satisfactory criminal record check.
