February 6, 2017 – Nominations of candidates are now being accepted by Elections Saskatchewan for the constituency of Saskatoon Meewasin by-election on March 2.

Per Section 31 of The Election Act, 1996, nomination day for candidates must be a minimum of 16 days before polling day (which is Feb. 14 for this by-election) and must not be on a Sunday or a holiday. Nomination papers must be filed with that candidate’s constituency returning officer before 2:00 p.m. on nomination day, Feb. 14.

To qualify as a candidate in a by-election, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age on March 2, 2017;
  • Be a Canadian citizen;
  • Have lived in Saskatchewan for at least six months before election day (Sept. 2, 2016); 

After determining your eligibility:

  • you file nomination papers that must include the signatures of at least four voters in the Saskatoon Meewasin constituency, and
  • pay a $100 nomination deposit.
