Second Preliminary Count Update

Second Preliminary Count

Earlier today, at our head office in Regina, our team conducted the Second Preliminary Count for the Athabasca by-election. This Count consisted of 9 Vote by Mail ballots that we had received before 8 p.m. on election day, February 15.

Updated results can be found on our website at https://results.elections.sk.ca/ under the “Second Preliminary Count” tab at the top of the page. To return to election night results, click on the “First Preliminary Count” tab. On a mobile device, these options will likely appear as a drop-down box with options to select the two different counts.

I will provide more information on the Final Count, scheduled for Monday, February 28 toward the end of next week.

Security of Voters Lists

The Election Act, 1996 requires that I, as Chief Electoral Officer, take all reasonable steps to protect against unauthorized use of a voters’ list. When you, or an authorized representative requested access to the list, you signed a declaration to protect, secure and/or destroy the list of electors. I want to stress the importance of the commitment that was made and ask that you follow through on this. It is essential that we work together to protect the privacy and person information of voters and managing the personal information that we are provided access to is a key component of this.

I would also ask that you remind your candidates of their responsibility to collect and destroy any copies of the voters list used during their campaign. All candidates, or their representative, were required to sign the same declaration to protect, secure, and destroy the voters list provided to them. This responsibility extends to campaign workers and volunteers who may have been provided with a copy of the list.
