Pursuant to subsection 42(1) of The Legislative Assembly and Executive Council Act, 2005, and due to the passing of Mr. Ben Heppner of the Saskatchewan Party, the constituency of Martensville became vacant on September 24, 2006. On February 5, 2007, pursuant to an Order of the Lieutenant Governor in Council, a Writ of Election was issued by the Chief Electoral Officer to Ms. Darlene Buyck, constituency returning officer. The Writ ordered that the by-election be held on March 5, 2007.
