The Administrative Assistant will usually be the first contact a voter has when calling or visiting the returning office and is therefore a very important provider of election services.
Among other things, the Administrative Assistant will:
- Serve as front-office receptionist, answer phones, greet visitors/voters;
- Act as Poll Clerk for Absentee Voting in absence of Returning Officer or Election Clerk
- Assist in preparing supplies for training sessions; and
- Assist Returning Officer and Election Clerk where necessary.
Elections Saskatchewan is looking for individuals that have the following qualifications:
- Competent and reliable;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- Computer skills;
- Must be an eligible voter in the electoral division where contracted as a poll official;
- Must be available to work approximately 8-12 hours per day from start of election period until the day after Election Day (Returning Office is open 9:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday to Friday and 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Saturday for the entire election period. Where deemed necessary, additional people may be hired to staff the office, i.e. during evenings.) Actual hours or possible job-sharing are to be worked out with the Returning Officer;
- Persons with a criminal record incurred in the last 5 years do not qualify.
As an Administrative Assistant, the individual:
- Is not allowed to engage in any partisan political activity from the time the oath of office is taken for the position at Elections Saskatchewan until after Election Day, such activity will result in immediate cancellation of appointment;
- Communicates no bias or opinions on the election; and
- Answers only those questions relating to the process of the election (e.g. polling hours, absentee voting procedures)
The Administrative Assistant’s remuneration consists of a fee of $13.00 per hour.
