Absentee Voting - Advance Polls

There are a number of provisions in The Elections Act, 1996 that make it easier for all eligible voters to cast their ballots in the Provincial General Election.

One provision is voting at an advance poll. Acting Chief Electoral Officer, Dave Wilkie explained that “these polls are for the benefit of eligible voters who are unable to attend their regular polling location on Election Day”. All voters at an advance poll must sign a declaration and provide satisfactory proof of identity and ordinary residence. Complete information on identification requirements is available here.

Advance polls will be heldon the following dates and times:

Another provision to assist voters is absentee voting. If an eligible voter is unable to vote at either a regular poll on Election Day or at an advance poll, the elector may request an Absentee Voter Application form from a Returning Officer, Elections Saskatchewan or download from www.elections.sk.ca.

Any person wishing to vote by absentee ballot must complete and submit their application (along with a copy of satisfactory proof of their identity and place of ordinary residence) to the Returning Officer no later than Monday, October 31, 2011.

Special procedures are available at the polling location to assist those voters who require assistance. For example, magnifying sheets as well as a voting template are available to assist those voters with visual impairment. Provisions are also available for those who are physically unable to mark their ballot or unable to enter the polling place.

Election Day is Monday, November 7, 2011. Regular polls are open from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. C.S.T.
