September 19, 2017 – A total of 4,596 ballots were cast by voters in the constituency of Saskatoon Fairview by-election following the Final Count today.

One ballot box from absentee voting was opened today and the ballots were added to the preliminary count from by-election night on September 7, 2017. With the final count complete, the results are now official.

By legislation, voters who voted by mail as an absentee voter had until September 19 for their ballots to be received at Elections Saskatchewan, provided they were postmarked by 8 p.m. on September 7.

The 4,596 ballots came from a total of 56 ballot boxes comprised of:

  • 50 for regular polls on by-election day
  • 3 for advance polls
  • 1 for a mobile poll (two personal care homes in the constituency)
  • 1 for a homebound poll (11 homebound ballots administered)
  • 1 for absentee votes (21 absentee ballots counted in the Final Count)

Turnout of the 12,809 registered voters in Saskatoon Fairview was 35.9 percent. By comparison, in Saskatoon Fairview during the 2016 General Election there were 12,247 registered voters, 6,131 total votes, for a 50.1 percent of registered voters who voted. Traditionally, by-elections have seen a lower turnout than in provincial general elections. In the March 2017 Saskatoon Meewasin by-election, turnout stood at 41.6 percent compared to 57.6 per cent during the April 2016 General Election.
