  • Ensures problem-free movement of voters in and out of the polling station;
  • Ensures that voters remain within the designated areas of the polling station;
  • Provides directions to entrance and exit doors of the polling station;
  • Prohibits non-voters from entering the polling station (e.g. media); and
  • Possibly acts as a replacement for Poll Clerks or Deputy Returning Officers if a Deputy Returning Officer or Poll Clerk becomes unable to provide their services on Election Day.

Elections Saskatchewan is looking for individuals that have the following qualifications:

  • May be under 18 years of age, non-Canadian or have lived in Saskatchewan for less than 6 months (if necessary). If so, the Constable would not be able to take over as a Poll Clerk or Deputy Returning Officer, both of whom must be 18 years of age, a Canadian citizen and have been a resident of Saskatchewan for 6 months immediately prior to the day the election was called.

As a Constable, the individual:

  • Communicates no bias or opinions on the election while at the poll; and
  • Answers only those questions relating to the process of the election (e.g. hours of voting and locations of other polling places).

The Constable’s remuneration consists of a basic fee of $115.00 per day for work at a regular poll or $300.00 for the five day period at an advance poll. Additional remuneration of $35.00 is paid to attend a school of instruction. In rural polling places, remuneration for kilometres to attend the school of instruction is paid in accordance with the guidelines followed by the Public Service Commission. If the Constable provides replacement services for the Poll Clerk, then remuneration increases to $140.00 per day plus remuneration for kilometres to travel to another polling station if necessary.
